A fantastic lunch and meeting was held June 21st at the Elgin Country Club. We all enjoyed a fabulous
lunch. Afterwards, we learned much from our guest speaker, Ruth Peterson. She was from the Elgin
Crisis Center and spoke about its programs and needs. We also heard from our impromptu guest,
Wendy Wiegers. She is our Area Two representative. She addressed current legislation and
congratulated us on our growing membership.

IRTAPAC is a statewide, nonpartisan Political Action Committee (PAC) organized by members of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association to benefit the entire retired educator community through political contributions to state candidates.

Pension News : Stay current with what is being discussed regarding our pension and other public pensions. Stay in contact through
TRS and IRTA and EARTA online.
We need the help of all members!
Our retired teachers’ organization needs to grow!
Below are some points you can use when encouraging prospective
members to join.
1. Your TRS defined benefit pension is your economic lifeline, the main
purpose of IRTA is to protect it. Only 13 million workers of the 157
million now employed have a pension with a lifetime guaranteed annuity.
2. Teachers, public employees, and retirees have often been blamed in an
effort to push the current fiscal crisis away from Illinois politicians.
3. The Corona virus pandemic has caused extreme strain upon the state’s
fiscal stability. Retired teachers can expect increased attacks on our
guaranteed pension.
4. IRTA/EARTA provides its members with vital information, guidance and
direction about our pension. The dues are small when you consider the
help that IRTA/EARTA provides to retirees.
Things will not get better if retired teachers sit back and put their trust in
Illinois politicians for a solution.

Teachers Association web page www.irtaonline.org
